DARKER THAN BLACK 流星の双子 第１２話

流星の双子の最終話を見ました。
ついに再会を果たした紫苑と蘇芳だったが……

第１２話-星の方舟-

ヘルズゲートへ辿り着き、紫苑と再会した蘇芳は、
能力の対価によって倒れてしまった紫苑を心配するが、
外へ連れ出して欲しいと懇願される。

ジュライの先導で蘇芳を追ってゲート内に突入した未咲たちは、
紫苑が隠れていたアジトへと辿り着き、
二人が既に立ち去った後であることを知るが、
同じく紫苑を追って来たCIAの追跡から逃れることとなるが、
その途中にジュライは蘇芳を追って姿を消してしまう。

銀との因縁に決着を着けるため、１８号研究棟へやってきた黒は、
待ち受けていた葉月との戦闘を余儀なくされる。
耀子の仇を討つために、能力の使えない黒を圧倒する葉月だが、
止めを刺そうとした瞬間、
耀子を殺した真犯人がCIAと繋がっていた裏切り者の弦馬であることを知る。

CIAの追跡を振り切り、
ミハエルとオレイユが用意したとある施設へとやってきた未咲たちは、
ドールのネットワークで集めた世界中の情報と、
MEのネットワークで集めた世界中の人間の記憶を元に、
紫苑の能力で作り出されたもう一つの地球を目の当たりにすると共に、
蘇芳の旅の本当の目的を知らされる事となる。

一方、銀がイザナミとして完全覚醒した事を知った黒は、
全てを終わらせるために銀を殺すことを決意するのだった。

というわけで、謎が一気に解き明かされていくはずの最終話。
全体的に駆け足気味の展開だったので、
本来ならばもう２～３話くらい使う予定だったのかな？
という気がしなくもありませんが……

耀子を殺した犯人は、弦馬説は可能性薄いかな？って思ってましたが、
CIAと繋がっているなら可能性ありかも、という予測が当たってしまった。
まさか本当にCIAと繋がっていたとはねえ。

ただ、そのきっかけや弦馬自身の目的などは一切描かれていないので、
弦馬が元々CIAに所属していてスパイとして三号機関に潜り込んだのか、
それとも最初から三号機関に居たところを何らかの事件で、
CIAによって裏切らせるよう仕向けられたのか、
その辺りは全くもって謎のままです。

そして弦馬に潰されて死んだはずのオーガスト７が再登場。
いやはや、あっさり死んじゃってもう出て来ないんだろうな～、
って思っていたらまた出てきましたね。
彼の台詞ではどうやら死んでおらず、今もMI6に居るみたいですが、
では弦馬がロシアで潰したのは何なんでしょうね？
それともゲートの中で誰かが一時的に甦らせただけ？

紫苑の能力の対価も、結局明確に語られず終わってしまいました。
ただ、いくつか対価の謎を解き明かすヒントはありましたね。
物語が進むに連れて、徐々に衰弱していく様子から考えると、
紫苑の能力の対価は自身の体力か生命力そのもの、
と言ったところでしょうかね。
一番妥当なのは、生命力だと思います。
寿命という考え方も出来ますが、
これは寿命を支払う時に体力を消耗するという前提条件が必要になってきますし、
体力の消耗なら大規模なクローンを作り出したときに子供の体力で賄いきれるのか？
という疑問点が浮かんでくるので、
死なない程度に体力を奪うという点で生命力が尤も妥当かと……

その目的の一つこそ判明したものの、
結局謎のままに終わってしまったオレイユの正体。
奇抜なファッションに身を包んだり、
双子のドールやオーバーテクノロジーを所有していたりと、
あまりにも謎が多い割にはちっともその糸口が見えてこないです。
判ったのは紫苑の能力を用いて、
ゲートの存在しない地球を作り出そうとしていたことと、
猫の元・恋人だった、ということだけですからねw

結局物語の核となる紫苑の目的と蘇芳の旅の意味以外、
殆どの謎が謎のままで終わってしまった今回のDTB。

黒が求めていた流星核とはどういう代物だったのか？とか。
銀がイザナミと呼ばれるようになったのは契約者を自殺に追い込めるからですが、
何故そんな力を持つようになってしまったのか？とか。
葉月と耀子は百合関係だったのか？とか、
ノリオは結局何のために登場したのか？とかw
まあ、銀についてはコミックを読め、ってことなんでしょうかね。

第１期である黒の契約者と比べると、消化不良は否めない気がします。
２クールでは長すぎるが、１クールでは少々足りない、といった感じの作品でした。

微妙・・・なエンディングでしたね。
なんか不完全燃焼というか・・・

もともとDTBの契約者の能力は物理法則を無視したトンデモ超能力ですし、対価も全然バランスが取れていないので、この作品世界はまったく不条理な世界なのだと思っています。
だから逆に、登場人物の心理の変化や選択が大事なわけです。

第一期では黒が「東京一円を停滞空間にする」か「契約者殲滅を見過ごすか」と言う決断を迫られます。結局彼はどちらでもない「契約者と人類が共存する未来」にかける選択をするわけです。
これに対して第二期の主人公である蘇芳は何の選択もせず、紫苑の計画に従ってコピー地球に魂だけ移住させられてしまいます。
これでは、せっかくここまで描いてきた蘇芳の感情の豊かさや葛藤が全然生かされておらず、ただ状況に流されるだけのヘタレ主人公とかわりません。
マダム・オレイユが言っていた「星に願いを、あの小さな赤い星に」と言うのは、彼女が物語の鍵になると言う予告だと思っていたのですが中途半端で放り出された気分です。
ここまで緻密なディテールを積み上げてきたのであればこそ、終わり方はもっとぶっ飛んだものでも良かったのではないかと思います。

緻密に組み上げて来た割に、
最後の最後で諦めて放り投げた印象が拭えない終わり方でしたね。

ゲームに例えるならボスキャラ倒すために装備を整え、
準備万端でダンジョンに突入した次の瞬間、
イベントで強制的にボスを倒して拍子抜け、
といった感覚に似ているかと。
蘇芳も重要な選択肢は存在しませんでしたからね。
ヘタレ主人公の印象になってしまうのは致し方ないかと
