戦う司書 The Book of Bantorra 第８話

戦う司書の第８話を見ました。
ノロティの目の前で突如変貌したザトウだが……

第８話-泥と仲間と浜辺の貝殻-

岬へ向かったミンスとザトウの争いを止めるために、
二人を追ったノロティだが、
そこで待っていたのは地に倒れ伏したミンスと、
黒いマントに身を包んだザトウだった。

別人のように豹変したザトウに驚くノロティだったが、
ザトウの正体が本を自らに取り込むことで他人の記憶や魔法を手に入れる、
「本喰い」と呼ばれる能力の持ち主であり、
自分が会話していた相手はかつてザトウが食べた本の持ち主、
エンリケ＝ビスハイルであることを知る。

目の前でルイモンの本を食べられたことで、
激昂したノロティはミンスの制止を振り切ってザトウに襲い掛かるが、
食べた本の持ち主の魔法を自在に操るザトウの能力の前に、
徐々に劣勢へと追い込まれていく。

一方ザトウに支配権を取り戻され、再び内側へと押し込められたエンリケは、
それでも自分を気遣うノロティを助けるため、
同じようにザトウに本を喰われたかつての仲間と共に、
ザトウに対する反撃を開始する。

イマイチすっきりしないと言うか、
良く判らないザトウとエンリケの関係。
ザトウがエンリケを殺し、普通に本を読んだ後で食べた、
というのは判りましたが他の人と異なり何故エンリケだけが、
ザトウの内側である程度の自由が得られたのか？
ザトウの内側にあったクモラの本にしても、
何故クモラだけが本の状態だったのかが判れば、
この謎もある程度の推測が出来そうですが……
考えうる限り有力と思われるのが、
本の記憶を見たことでザトウの内側にエンリケの核(本の複製)が生まれ、
ザトウが本を食べたことでそれが人の形を成した、
とも考えられますが真相は不明ですね。

そしてもう一つ謎なのはザトウが死なないこと。
実際はエンリケだったわけですが、
心臓を貫いても死ぬことが出来なかったのは、
ザトウの持っている能力なのか、エンリケ自身が既に死んでいるからなのか、
それとも本喰いに元々備わっている能力なのか……
今回も結局此処は謎のままでしたね。

世界観は明らかになってきてはいても、
キャラとか設定が謎に包まれすぎな戦う司書ですが、
その中でも頻繁に出てくる謎キャラツートップとも言うべき、
ハミュッツとラスコールが今回は揃って登場してきましたね。
ノロティの様子を伺いながら、
ガンバンゼルとの戦いの準備を着々と進めている感じのハミュッツ。
教団が拘るハミュッツ抹殺の意図が、
ガンバンゼルとの戦いで少しは見えてくるんでしょうかね？
そして本に関することで色々と動き回っているラスコール。
この人も目的が相変わらず不明ですが、
そういえばヴォルケンがミレポに残した絵本に登場する謎の本屋も、
確かラスコールだったような……
単なる偶然なんでしょうかね？

仲間の協力で自分を確立し、ザトウが食べた本の記憶を破壊することで、
ザトウの力を奪いノロティを助けることに成功したエンリケ。
ルイモンらの協力でザトウを封じ込めることに成功しましたが、
ザトウは死んだわけではないのでどうなることか……
そして、特に動きは見せていないけど、
明らかに死亡フラグが立っているガンバンゼル。
次はハミュッツとの直接対決でしょうかね？
