戦う司書 The Book of Bantorra 第２１話

戦う司書の第２１話を見ました。
突如、世界から敵視されてしまった武装司書たちだが……

第２１話-憎しみと蒼と荒縄の姫君-

蒼怨呪病を用いた教団の細菌テロを阻止するために、
首謀者であるアーキットの捕獲任務にあたっていた、
ノロティの死からあまり時間が経っていないある日、
世界最大の軍事力を誇るイスモ共和国はバントーラに対し、
宣戦布告を行い進軍を開始していた。

友好国の突然の宣戦布告に教団の影を感じ、
戸惑いながらも応戦を指示したハミュッツではあったが、
イスモのみならず近隣のグインベクスを始めとする全ての国家が、
一斉に宣戦布告を行ってきた事に危機感を抱き、
島外に居る全ての司書に即時帰還命令を下し、
帰還してきた武装司書を逐次戦線に投入して対応していた。

イスモ艦隊の迎撃に当たっていたマットとキャサリロは、
捕縛した敵艦の艦長から、
バントーラに敵対したのはノロティが殺されたためだと聞かされる。

卓越した戦闘能力を誇る武装司書を前線に投入して艦隊を足止めし、
図書館防衛にあたっているミンスにシュラムッフェンを持たせ、
敵航空部隊を迎撃させることで辛うじて戦線を維持していたが、
数に於いて圧倒的不利な状況下で戦力温存の愚を回避するため、
ハミュッツは全指揮権をミレポックに移譲し、
イレイアと共に防衛線の最も薄いグインベクス艦隊の迎撃に赴く。

一方ノロティのやり残した事を代わりに果たすため、
一人図書館を離れてノロティの最後の足取りを追っていたエンリケは、
彼女が黒幕である楽園管理者、
カチュア＝ビーインハスと会い見えていたことを知るのだが。

教団との戦いはヴォルケンの叛乱でオリビアがユックユックを使って以降、
教団の奴隷が記憶を取り戻したことで次々と離反し、
武装司書が圧倒的優位で進めていたはずなんですが、
突如全世界が敵に回ったことで圧倒的不利に追い込まれてます。
某作品の「チェス盤を引っ繰り返す」というのは比喩的表現だったわけですが、
現在の武装司書と教団の戦いは比喩ではなく、
ものの見事にチェス盤を引っ繰り返されてしまったわけですね。

これまではマット・ハミュッツ・フォトナといった、
事情を知っている武装司書の前にしか姿を現さなかった楽園管理者。
そして前回アーキットが言っていた「カチュア」こそ、
この楽園管理者であることが判明しました。
蒼怨呪病を用いて全ての人間に武装司書に対する憎しみを植え付け、
全面戦争へと突入させたことまでは判りましたが、
具体的にどうやってそれを広めたのかまでは未だ謎のまま。
どうやらアーキットを用いて行ったであろう事と、
それがノロティの死に関係しているであろう事、
更にはノロティの死にダルトンが関っているらしい事も判りましたが、
何故それが武装司書に対する憎しみに繋がるのか？

最前線で戦うが故の宿命というべきか、
各ストーリーに於いて大抵殉職者が出る武装司書。
今回はミンスがピンチかと思いきや辛うじて追手を振り切り、
代わりにお亡くなりになったのは最古参のイレイアさん。
本編で一番最初の殉職者であるルイモン同様、
自爆テロに巻き込まれてお亡くなりになりました。
如何に時間を止める魔法を持つイレイアさんでも、
防衛戦で疲弊しきった状況下では回避できませんでしたね。

ミンスからの情報で世界が敵に回った理由の一端を知ったミレポ。
過去神島の住人まで敵に回ったことを知って、
ハミュッツから移譲された権限を用いて全ての武装司書を撤退させ、
結界によって侵攻を防ぐ篭城戦に移行したわけですが……
全世界が敵に回っている状況下で篭城したところで、
援軍など期待できるはずもなく、
ましてや原因究明と解決の糸口を模索する時間は無きに等しい状況。
悪足掻きでしかない篭城戦の中で、
事態を打開する方法を見出せるんでしょうかね？
全てはミンスからの情報と、エンリケ次第、といったところでしょうか……

カチュアの傍らに居る、蜥蜴へと姿を変えたアーキット。
彼がその姿になってしまった理由とは何なのか？
そして完全に包囲されてしまったバントーラ図書館に篭る武装司書。
この状況を打開する方法は存在するのか？
