戦う司書 The Book of Bantorra 第２２話

戦う司書の第２２話を見ました。過去神島の住人まで敵に回り、
図書館での篭城戦を余儀なくされた武装司書たちだったが……

第２２話-空と結末と彼女の世界-

武装司書の下部組織であり、表向きは対立しあっている神溺教団。
その最高指導者である楽園管理者、
カチュア＝ビーインハスが世界中に放った蒼怨呪病により、
世界の敵となった武装司書たちは、
図書館での篭城戦を余儀なくされていた。

結界によって図書館内への侵入こそ防いでいるものの、
効果は三日しか持続できないことから、
完全に追い詰められてしまったハミュッツは、
全ての司書を集めると図書館を棄て、打って出る事を宣言する。

ノロティの本を頼りに彼女の足取りを追っていたエンリケは、
アーキットが武装司書を憎む理由が、
非戦闘員である軍楽隊だった彼の家族を、
反乱鎮圧に赴いたモッカニアが殺し、
それを賠償金という形で事態を収めようとした事に起因することを知る。

世界中から憎まれ、疎まれ、勝ち目など無いと知りつつも、
最後の悪足掻きとして必死に抵抗する武装司書たち。
一方エンリケはノロティの最後の願いを果たすため、
元凶であるアーキットとカチュアの元へ辿り着くのだが……

完全に追い詰められ、八方塞となったハミュッツたち。
所謂スターウォーズで暗黒面に堕ちたアナキンに裏切られ、
パルパティーンによって全宇宙の敵とされてしまったジェダイのように、
部下であるはずのカチュアの叛乱によって世界の敵とされたわけですが、
スターウォーズと異なるのは一枚岩ではない宇宙の間隙を突き、
ヨーダたちが追跡の手を逃れて潜伏したのに対し、
相手が完全に一枚岩となっていることで隙が無く逃げることが出来ない、
という点でしょうかね。

嬲り殺しにされるくらいならば玉砕することを選んだハミュッツ。
イレイアはハミュッツを死に急いでいる、と評していましたが、
謎だったハミュッツの目的の一部が、
自分が死んで本になること、というのが今回判明しました。
ただし死を望んでいるにも拘らず自殺しないという事は、
死に方にも意味はあるらしく、
「殺し合いの結果の凄惨な死」というのがポイントのようですね。
尤も、ハミュッツが自身の死の先に何かを求めているのは確実で、
死は彼女の目的の第１段階に過ぎない印象を受けます。
彼女の最終的な目的とは何なんでしょうね？

世界中がバントーラの敵となったからくりが明らかになった今回。
カチュアは「ノロティだけが自分を追い詰めた」と言っていましたが、
カチュアの目的は武装司書に対する強い憎しみを、
アーキット自身に抱かせることだったわけで、
ノロティに接触したことでアーキットが憎しみを和らげてしまえば、
計画そのものが崩壊してしまうわけですね。
そういう意味では確かにノロティはカチュアを追い詰めていました。
ただ、カチュアにとって幸運だったのはダルトンの存在。
アーキットが彼のことを知らないことを利用し、
アーキットの目の前で裏切り者を始末しに来た武装司書を演じさせたことで、
ものの見事に憎しみを植えつける事に成功したわけですが、
その後ダルトンを殺したのは誰なんでしょうね？

そしてカチュアと会い見えたエンリケ。
ユックユックの防御結界によって苦戦を強いられるものの、
集めた雷雲からの雷撃によって結界を破壊し、
ノロティの本をアーキットに読ませることで事態を収拾したわけですが、
カチュアについては一切触れられていないのでどうなったかは不明。
彼もまた死んだのかな？

エンリケが原因を絶った事で世界は正気を取り戻し、
辛うじて滅亡を回避した武装司書たち。
カチュアの叛乱の顛末を手紙に認め、図書館へと送ったエンリケ。
そのエンリケは、とある駅でオリビアと再会する事となるのだが……
