狼と香辛料Ⅱの第１０話を見ました。
エーブの提案。その真意とは？

第１０幕-狼と孤独な微笑み-

五十人会議は外地商人に毛皮を売ることで結論が出た。
だがその取引はツケを認めず、
現金による取引しか出来ないことが判明する。
しかし現金の持ち合わせが無いエーブたちは、
ホロを貴族の娘として担保代わりに現金を調達する方法を思いつく。

ホロを売って資金を得る。
その方法に抵抗を覚えたロレンスだったが、
当事者であるホロに諭され、
情報を集めるために街に繰り出すことに。

その中でロレンスは今回の騒動に教会が絡んでいること、
エーブが石像だけでなく、塩も扱っていたことを知る。

話がだんだんときな臭さを増して来ましたね。
ロレンスの説明によると、海から離れれば離れるほど、
塩の価値は宝石のように高くなるらしいですが、
それならばエーブはわざわざ石像を扱う必要はないはず。
エーブが石像を取り扱っていたのは、
教会との繋がりを保つため、というところまでは理解できますが、
教会の司教が大司教になって、
エーブにはどんな利益があったんでしょうね？

エーブの提案が罠である可能性はかなり低い。
尤も皆無とは言えませんが、損得の勘定から考えると、
ロレンスを罠に嵌めるメリットが薄い気がします。
ただしロレンスの方が、
圧倒的にリスクは高いように見えますけどね。
寧ろ気になるのは、エーブに焦りが見られることでしょうか……
少々強引に物事を進めているように見受けられますね。

どうやら、まだエーブは手持ちのカードを隠した状態にも思えます。
ホロとロレンスの反応から、
二人ともそれに気付いているようですが、
相手の手の内が見えてこない以上は対応のし様が無い、
といったところでしょうか……

さて、どうなることやら……
