戦う司書 The Book of Bantorra 第１３話

戦う司書の第１３話を見ました。
謎の人物、ラスコール＝オセロを調べるミレポックだったが……

第１３話-休暇と絵本と赤錆の髪-

御伽噺に登場する不思議な魔法使い、ラスコール＝オセロ。
過去の事件において、
教団関係者の本が一冊も発見されていないことに疑問を抱いたミレポは、
ラスコールと教団の関連性を疑い、ハミュッツに調査の許可申請を行う。

しかし、申請を却下されたミレポは休暇申請を行い、
ラスコールの噂が存在したイスモ共和国の街であるフルベックへ一人で赴き、
ラスコールを追ったがために殺されたという女優、
パーニィ＝パールマンタの死の真相と本の捜索に乗り出す。

フルベックの市警本部を訪れたミレポは、
武装司書としての権限で８年前にパーニーが死んだ事件の資料を閲覧するが、
その際に街で起こっている連続殺人事件の話と、
同じようにパーニィの死とラスコールの事を調べる少年の話を聞く。

ミレポの持つ魔法権利の有用性を理解し、
同時にミレポの性格に危機感を抱いていたマットは、
監視と護衛を兼ねてフルベックへと赴きミレポと合流すると、
パーニィの本の捜索に力を貸すこととなる。

一方、シガルの元部下であったアルメ＝ノートンは、
彼を死に追いやったラスコールを探すために、
手掛かりとなるパーニィの本を探して、
フルベックに隠れ潜む教団員に本の在処を問い詰めて回っていた。

自分がラスコールの絵本を持っていることに疑問を抱くも、
その理由までは思い至ることが出来なかったミレポは翌日、
街の本の密売組織の元締めであるキース＝クィーンを訊ねるのだが……

登場キャラが多ければ、謎も多い戦う司書。
今回は本に関る場面で何かと登場してくる謎の人物、
ラスコール＝オセロの追跡劇といったところでしょうか。
楽園管理者と一緒に居る場面が多く、教団寄りのキャラなのかとも思いましたが、
謎が多い割にはハミュッツやマット、更にはイレイアの反応をみると、
少なくともこの三人は何かしらを知っている感じでもありますね。
シガルやガンバンゼルの本を回収したり、
離反前のヴォルケンに本を届けたり、
神出鬼没なラスコールの正体とは何なんでしょうね？
そして、ラスコールを探す謎の少年の正体とその目的とは何なのか？

シガルの仇を討つためにラスコールを探すアルメーですが、
行使できる魔法権利はハミュッツと同じ触覚糸のようですね。
ただし、ミレポの援護に来たマットが、
キースの屋敷に入るまで気付かなかったところを見ると、
バントーラの島全体を把握できるハミュッツと異なり、
その効果範囲はかなり狭いようですね。

シガルに拾われたものの、後にシガルに捨てられてしまったアルメーですが、
シガルの目的を考えれば当然と言えば当然でしょうね。
そもそもシガルの目的は自分が一番幸福になることでしたから、
他に幸福を感じている人間が居た場合、
自分が一番になれない可能性が出てきますから、
アルメーがシガルに仕える事に幸福を感じているのを知った瞬間、
彼女を捨てたのは当然の成り行きとも言えますね。

そして執拗にラスコールに拘るミレポですが、
ラスコールを追っていたはずのハイザの本を読んだにも拘らず、
その片鱗を掴めていない所を見ると、
ハイザ自身もラスコールに辿り着けなかったと見るべきでしょうね。
ミレポの言葉を額面どおりに受け取れば、
ラスコールと教団の関連性を疑っての調査ということになりますが、
気になるのはミレポの言動や理念が、
明らかにヴォルケンのそれと同じということでしょうか。
アーガックスで自らヴォルケンの記憶を抹消したミレポですが、
自分でも気付かないうちに影響を受けていたヴォルケンの影に、
少しづつ疑問を抱き始めたんでしょうかね？

教団と武装司書、
立場は違えど同じラスコールを追うミレポとアルメー。
そして謎の少年。
鍵を握るのはパーニィの本だが、三人はラスコールの下へ辿り着くことが出来るのか？
